Five Major Chocolate Giants Jointly Establish Foundation, Focusing on Enhancing the Resilience of West African Cocoa Supply Chain

On February 25, 2026, the world's five major chocolate manufacturers - Mars Incorporated, Mondelez International, Nestlé, The Hershey Company, and Lindt & Sprüngli - jointly announced the establishment of the TogetherCocoa Foundation, aiming to support the development of cocoa-growing communities in West Africa and enhance the long-term stability of the global cocoa supply chain.
It is reported that West Africa is the world's most important cocoa-producing region, with Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana accounting for the dominant global cocoa output. However, for a long time, low income of local farmers, increasing risks of climate change, and human rights issues such as child labor have put continuous pressure on the cocoa supply chain. Especially in recent years, the drastic fluctuation of cocoa prices, coupled with the declining production capacity of aging plantations, has further increased the uncertainty of raw material supply for chocolate enterprises.
The core goals of the TogetherCocoa Foundation include: narrowing the living income gap of cocoa-growing families in Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana, supporting the sustainable development of planting communities, and strengthening the resilience of the global cocoa supply chain. The foundation will cooperate in depth with the governments of the two countries, supply chain partners, and relevant industry stakeholders to promote projects such as the upgrading of cocoa planting technology and community assistance. Todd Scott, Senior Manager of Communications at The Hershey Company, said that specific implementation plans and details will be gradually disclosed in the follow-up.
Industry insiders pointed out that although the five major giants have each operated sustainable development projects before, the joint establishment of an independent foundation this time is an important upgrade of the industry cooperation model. Against the background of fluctuating cocoa prices, increasing climate shocks, and stricter regulations, the efforts of a single enterprise can no longer cope with systematic challenges. This cooperation is expected to establish a more sustainable foundation for the global cocoa supply chain, and may also attract more industry giants such as Ferrero and Pladis to join.
